Personal Statement
I have studied for eight years with Paul Kantor. Mr. Kantor was the chair of the String Department at University of Michigan, and had concurrent violin teaching appointments at the Juilliard School, the New England Conservatory and Yale University. Mr. Kantor was the Distinguished Professor of Violin at the Cleveland Institute of Music. He was the artist in residence of the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. Currently Mr. Kantor is the Sally Shepherd Perkins Professor of violin at the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University and teaches at the Aspen Music Festival and School. Mr. Kantor is considered one of the top violin pedagogists in the world.
Additionally, Iwas instructed privately in composition, music theory and aural skills, on the graduate school level, for eight years, by Dr. Edward Hart, Professor and Chair of the Department of Music at the College of Charleston.
I have also performed as the solo violinist with the Charleston Symphony Orchestra for the opening of Spoleto, performing Bruchs Scottish Fantasy. She also performed as the solo violinist with the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra in their Beethoven Concert, Veterans Day concert, two private Symphony League soires and their Nowell Concerts.
I taught and conducted orchestra string sectionals as the Assistant Orchestra Director at Bob Jones Academy, Greenville, SC, taught chamber groups, preparing them for competitions and has taught private lessons throughout these years.
