Personal Statement

Welcome and thanks for checking out my profile!

My greatest strength as a teacher is that I can show you a diverse range of musical styles on the violin (also referred to as the fiddle). I teach beginner to intermediate Classical Violin (Suzuki books 1 – 4), Old Time Fiddle, Blues Violin, and Rock n’ Roll Violin, and beginner to advanced Traditional Irish music. Having successfully made the transition from my classical beginnings to fiddle styles myself, I can teach you how to do the same while maintaining proper posturing that will prevent future injury.

Here’s my teaching philosophy:

You can become great at your instrument and you will be given the tools you need to do so.

Each individual has a different way of learning, and so your lessons will be personally tailored to your needs.

The way that you practice determines how long your road to mastery of your instrument will become. You will be taught to practice in a way that will quickly increase your skill by making the most of the time you dedicate to your instrument.

When you are taught something you will be told why it is important to do it in that way. Why? Because knowing why something is important helps in remembering to do it.

Thanks for your time and I hope you are having a great day!

-Julian

Education / Training

Here’s an excerpt from my biography:

A consummate musician of over twenty years, Julian Lambertson has performed as well as taught students and workshops all over the United States and Western Europe throughout his musical career. On St. Patrick’s Day of 2013 Julian’s playing was featured on the national television station QVC, appearing with the band Claddagh Ceol. He also has extensive experience in musical composition, song & tune arrangement, music production, and studio music recording. His primary instruments are the fiddle/violin and electric bass guitar.

Julians musical style on fiddle/violin is firmly grounded in the traditional music of Ireland with the foundation of his skill built off of a disciplined classical background. It also fuses elements of Blues, Rock n Roll, Old Time, Eastern European, Greek, Jazz, Country, Cape Breton, Scottish, English, and Breton music, all of which have influenced his playing over the years.

Julian Lambertson began his musical odyssey studying classical music with his primary instructor being multi-award winning violinist Alvaro Gomez. As his first introduction to fiddle music, he learned the old time fiddle style by listening to and playing with various contra dance bands in central Florida. This opened the doors to a whole new world of music and Julian quickly fell in love with the traditions of Ireland, once again through exposure to dance bands. Since then he has studied with many of the greatest fiddle players of this time including Liz Carroll, Liz Knowles, Brian Conway, Jerry Holland, Randal Bays, Mike Dugger, Laura Risk, Elke Baker, Iain Fraser, and Dale Russ. To learn the blues, Julian honed his chops under the guidance of spectacular jazz/blues artist, Thom Chambers, in addition to sitting in on countless jam sessions. His rock n’ roll style is entirely self-taught from spending years playing with rock and progressive metal bands.
