Personal Statement
I have been teaching piano for over 15 years and I love being able to help others make music. I have been playing classical piano since I was 5, went to conservatory ( with a doctorate in piano from Indiana University) while exploring less traditional/experimental music. I love a large variety of music and work as both a composer and performer. When teaching composition, I love working with people to realize their ideas by exposing them to a large range of music and ideas that stem from contemporary classical music.
I believe that everyone has a musical voice that can be nurtured and developed through intention and discipline. I have the traditional classical foundation and a creative approach to encourage students to write his/her own music.
Education / Training
I have been living in Astoria for 6 years and concurrently finishing my doctorate degree in Piano Performance at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. My expected graduation is September 2014. I have also earned a minor in music theory. I studied with Andr Watts.
I received my Master in Music from Northwestern University as an Eckstein Merit Scholar (2000) and my Bachelor in Music at Oberlin Conservatory (1999) on the Deans Talent Award Scholarship.
