Personal Statement
Shannon Baker has over ten years of experience teaching saxophone, flute, clarinet and piano. She taught primarily in the Tampa and Jacksonville, FL area before moving to the NYC tri-state area in 2009. Lessons can include several elements of music, such as composition, theory and improvisation, depending on the student’s interest.
As a performer Shannon has led her own jazz quartet, which played throughout the Tampa Bay, FL area, as well as played multiple woodwinds in “Community of the Spirit” and the Shannon Baker/Erica Seguine Duo in NYC-area clubs such as the 5C Cafe, Puppets Jazz Club and The Shrine. She currently co-leads the Erica Seguine & Shannon Baker Jazz Orchestra, an 18-member modern big band, for which she composes, as well as plays saxophone and woodwinds.
As a composer and arranger, she has written several works for Jazz orchestra and other instrumentations. They are often performed by her co-lead Jazz Orchestra. Shannon received her BM in Jazz Performance from the University of North Florida, where she studied with the legendary saxophonist Bunky Green. She received her MM from William Paterson University in Jazz Arranging studying composition and arranging from Jim McNeely, Rich DeRosa and Cecil Bridgewater.
She currently offers 30, 45 or 60 minute lessons in saxophone, clarinet, flute and oboe.
