Personal Statement
My name is Raul Escobedo and I am currently a graduate student in tuba performance at Northwestern University. I am currently completing my second and final year at the university and enjoying every bit of it.
My background begins at the University of North Texas, which I received my bachelors degree in music education. I have had the chance to teach privately for 2 years and student taught during my last semester at North Texas. My experience student teaching was a great success. The director of bands Chris Cansler offered me many opportunities to rehearse all three bands, lead certain sectionals, build an orchestral brass section, and much more. Currently at Northwestern, my graduate assistantship is to rehearse and lead the basketball band in both the women and men’s games. As for my future plans, I plan to stay in the Chicago area for the next few years, looking for teaching and performing opportunities.
With all this experience I have from teaching privately, working with band programs, working at the collegiate level, and still currently dedicated to my craft could separate me from other music teachers.
