Personal Statement

My speciality is the early start with both instruments, particularly for the flute. This means the pieces fit for the age group. Simple short melodies are motivating for the youngest student. Starting early with the flute means there is more time to grow into the instrument. I use a graded system of teaching with eight levels; each level culminating in an examination given by an accredited music examiner. This was a primary reason that many students stayed on in the lessons. Their progress was measurable. There is a wide choice of styles and composers designed to fit the skills of the student. Here is the contact address for further information about this: www.abrsm.org Even though the exams form a basis for the lessons, there are other activities such as competitions, for those who are interested. Playing together is an integral part of every lesson. Included in the regular lessons are theory and eartraining. Every level is conceived for the normal student. “Small quick steps” (quoting a well-known Russian piano professor)are used as a guideline.
