Codrut’s Story
Born in Brasov, Romania, Codrut Birsan began piano lessons at age 9. By age 14, he was named the “Cantarea Romaniei” Piano Competition winner. By age 19 Codrut Birsan began voice lessons at “Brasov Conservatory” and transfer at Bucharest University of Music after two years where he studied with distinguished professor Georgeta Stoleriu. At age 23 he had his debut at Opera Constanta in opera “Barbiere of Seville”by G.Rossini and one year later the with the same opera title at National Opera Bucharest. Codrut continued his studies at San Francisco Conservatory where he obtain his master degree.

In addition to numerous private recitals, master-class performances, recording sessions for Romanian National Public Radio, and professional opera engagements, Codrut has decided to move to America. Since he arrived in America he has collaborated with many institutions like the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, San Francisco Lyric Opera, North bay Opera, B.A.S.O.T.I Piano opera accompanist & vocal soloist, and has won several competition awards such as the “Crizantema de Aur” Romanian National Voice Competition.

Currently, Codrut is a freelance Piano and Vocal artist performing in groups throughout the Wisconsin region. He enjoys teaching students of all ages and abilities, with an emphasis on both intermediate and advanced students who exhibit a strong desire. Younger beginning students are evaluated and accepted into his studios on a case by case basis. Codrut’s mission as a teacher is to pass on to young players of all abilities, the gifts of deep technical insight, musicianship and strong work ethics. Codrut strives to provide a clear advantage for his students in order to enhance their accomplishments in both Voice and Piano performance . Codrut has his private studio at Madison Music Foundry since 2009.
