Personal Statement
An experienced teacher and performer, Rachel finds creative ways for all her students to learn and grow. Whether beginner, intermediate or advanced she has proven methods to fully engage every student in their learning. Rachel knows the art of cello playing AND is masterful in the art of teaching.
Her positive, creative, patient and encouraging approach is much sought after.
Lessons will focus on developing solid technique through scales and etudes; a thoughtful approach to playing musically; work on solo pieces carefully chosen for maximum enjoyment by each student; improvisation and playing by ear PLUS learning to practice effectively.
Rachel earned her BMus in Cello Performance from Trinity College of Music, London, and her MMus in Cello Performance from Rutgers University, NJ. She is an Orff certified teacher with her music teaching credential from Mi and Ca. Rachel has taught individual and small group cello lessons for over 20 years. She also taught classroom general music for 14 years. Alongside her active private studio, she currently teaches an undergraduate music education course at Wayne State University.
Rachel has performed and recorded with professional orchestras, chamber groups & bands throughout Europe and the USA. Some highlights include performing at the Fox Theater, Detroit; Tours of Germany and Austria with Essen Symphonie & The Rilke Projekt; and performing with Green Day at the Grammys!
