Personal Statement
I have taught and performed all over the world, at music festivals, at universities, and with professional ensembles.
I work with every student to instill and support a love for playing the cello. My love for playing the cello, and for the music that I play, is what drives me to work hard. I believe that those with a genuine motivation behind playing are able to achieve the results they want faster, more easily, and more pleasurably.
Whether a student wishes to pursue a career in music or play casually, I tailor my teaching style to the individual needs of everyone I work with. I have never liked the my way or the highway approach, and really enjoy getting to know each student and working together to make progress. Generally, I take a well-rounded approach to lessons: while technique and musical ideas are the priority, I also regularly involve rhythmical exercises, theory concepts, and historical context.
My teaching experience includes chamber music coaching and master classes at University of California-Irvine, teaching assistant positions at the Cleveland Institute of Music, University of Illinois, and University of North Texas. In addition to my private studio, I have also taught in the Dallas Symphony Young Strings program and the Kneisel Hall Chamber Music Festival Young Artist program.
