Personal Statement
Michelle Gasworth holds Bachelor and Master degrees in Viola Performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music. While pursuing her Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of North Texas, she served as Principal Violist for the Waco Symphony Orchestra and the Abilene Philharmonic, and performed regularly with the Dallas Opera Orchestra.
As a member of the Bancroft String Quartet, Michelle traveled to Japan to perform at the Upbeat Tokachi Music Festival. The following year, the ensemble was invited to perform and establish a chamber music program at the South China University of Technology in Guangzhou, China. She has performed in Master Classes for Pinchas Zukerman, Helen Callus, and Robert Vernon. Michelle performs with the Artosphere Festival Orchestra during the summer. Past teachers and mentors include Dr. Susan Dubois, Mark Jackobs, and Roland Vamos.
Michelle has served as Teaching Assistant at the Birch Creek Music Festival and at the University of North Texas. She has experience working with all ages and levels and enjoys having variety in her studio. She understands that everyone has individual goals in their pursuit of viola lessons and works hard to help each student meet his/her potential.
Michelles passion for working with people from diverse cultural and social backgrounds has opened up many unique opportunities. Through Global Volunteers, she traveled to Ghana to participate in a volunteer project led by community members to help improve the local education system. Michelle actively participates in organizing fundraising events for the Shropshire Music Foundation, an organization that brings free musical instruments and instruction to children in war-torn countries. Michelle recently moved to California and is the Director of Community Outreach at Chamber Music OC.
