General
Established as a non-profit educational organization since 1993, Artistic Journeys currently offers a visual arts program at Holy Trinity Lutheran School in Hacienda Heights and The Linnea Woodwind/Brass Quintets and Linnea Brass Quartet rehearse there regularly. Since 1994, visual arts services have been provided to over 8,000 students as a result of contracts with public and private schools in local surrounding districts. In 1997, a youth orchestra was established. In Fall of 2003, a partnership was begun with The Homestead Museum, City of Industry, creating The 2003 Young Artists in Residence at The Homestead to house the Linnea Chamber Orchestra. The museum will also be the new site for the 2004 art day camp. Spring/Summer sites for the chamber orchestra include KCAT Channel 20 Community Access Television, to create a documentary on the development of young musicians. Expansion of the orchestral program for the 2003-2004 season was provided by a $15,000 grant from Supervisor Don Knabe’s Arts Education Partnership Program, Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors. Scholarship funds include: The Vladimir Takenouchi Memorial Scholarship Fund for students studying abroad, and The Joe Nardulli Leadership Award. Subsidized private lessons are available. Other sponsored programs include The Applegate Project and the Riverside Brass. Planned for 2005 is an orchestra tour of Sweden and England.
