Celebrating its 40th anniversary, Bloomingdale School of Music, located on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, serves music students of all ages and economic levels from Manhattan and all boroughs of New York City in its three programs. The After School and Weekend Program is Bloomingdale’s core offering of private study in one of twenty-five instruments and over twenty classes for children and adults in both classical and jazz disciplines. This program involves people of all ages from babies through seniors and all musical interests. The Music Access Project is a rigorous program of study that prepares youths from under-served urban communities for the demands of music education at a college, university, or conservatory. Working collaboratively, Bloomingdale also provides music instruction for over 700 children in three public schools, either on-site at the school or at Bloomingdale. The instruction is in one of three areas: class instrumental instruction in violin, flute, or clarinet; general music instruction through Orff Schulwerk; or jazz education. Finally, over 70 free concerts are presented every year.
