The Community Music School of the Michigan State University School of Music (CMS), with an enrollment of over 1,500 students, offers instruction in all orchestral winds, string and percussion, piano and organ, guitar, harp and voice, and Alexander Technique. CMS has a thriving Suzuki strings program. The Early Childhood Music Program has become a leading pedagogical and instructional program in the state and has expanded its curriculum, through the Young Musicians Program, to include classes for children from birth to 11. Performance opportunities include the Children’s Choirs, the Adult Beginning Band, and an active chamber music program. Summer programs include a Junior High Performing Arts Band Camp, with an enrollment of over 250 students, and a youth choir camp. The Music Therapy Clinical Services Program serves the Greater Lansing area with licensed music therapists and functions in cooperation with the MSU Music Therapy Program, the pioneer degree-granting music therapy program in the country.
