Founded by its current Director the Joy of Music Program (JOMP-pronounced “jump”) is a non-profit community music school with an annual enrollment of over 550 students ranging in age from 3 years to adult and a faculty of 34. Music and Movement classes for children are the heart of the school – all of JOMP’s curriculum has grown from them: recorder classes and ensembles, Afro-Caribbean drumming, creative and modern dance, children’s chorus, classical and jazz ensembles, chamber music and private instrumental study in piano, guitar, recorder, strings, brass and woodwinds. The Joy of Music Program students and faculty present over 60 performances a year, reaching a combined audience of over 8,000. The school’s annual JOMPATHON raises money for the financial aid and outreach program, which supports one in five students.
