The Community Music Center (CMC) of the University of Indianapolis has served young people and adults with private lessons and ensembles for more than twenty years. The program is designed for students of all ages and levels of study. Its mission is to enrich the cultural life of the community by providing participants of all ages and backgrounds with a comprehensive music education in a nurturing and stimulating environment. CMC’s goals are: To provide the community the opportunity to develop knowledge and ability in all aspects of music at a level appropriate to their needs and interests; to inspire the community through the sponsorship of frequent and varied concerts and recitals; and to provide enrichment seminars and the exchange of ideas among private, K-12, and University faculty and students. A majority of CMC instructors have a Master of Music degree. CMC provides a well-rounded music education for its participants designed to complement their school music education. Summer enrichment activities include the Piano Camp I, Piano Camp II Vocal Arts Institute, Chamber Music Institute, and Jazz Combo Camp. Students are also invited to attend the many free concerts in the Ruth Lilly Performance Hall. A Children’s Concert Series is available as are performance opportunities for registered students.
