Personal Statement

Based in Cincinnati, Ohio, I am a bassoonist and woodwind multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, electronic musician, and reed maker. I am a proud graduate of The Juilliard School in New York City and the College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) at the University of Cincinnati. I am currently a substitute musician with the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra, the Muncie Symphony Orchestra, Hamilton-Fairfield Symphony, and Kentucky Symphony Orchestra. As a woodwind doubler, I perform regularly at the Covedale Center for the Performing Arts, the new Incline Theater, and with Wright State University’s musical theatre department. I am a solo artist and have been featured on multiple subscription concerts in the Cincinnati area, and am looking forward to recitals and master classes across the country during the 2015-2016 school year.

During my 5 years in New York City, I was the founding member of the woodwind quintet Vortex Street. I also performed with numerous ensembles and orchestras including all of the orchestras and ensembles at the Juilliard School, the Astoria Symphony Orchestra, the Bergen Symphony, Ensemble ACJW, and more. In 2013, I was awarded a featured bassoon fellowship for the American Soundscapes program at the Weill institute at Carnegie Hall and in contemporary music, and I have been instrumental in premiering the inspired works of artists like Rex Isenberg, Kyle Werner, Shin-Lei Chen, Vincent Lombardi, Paul Rouders, and other composers.

I have taught woodwinds, piano, and voice for over a decade and I strongly believe in the empowerment that a private education in music gives. My philosophy of teaching is to equip students with the resources that will prepare them for a lifetime of achievement. This is done through development of musical sense, vocabulary, musicianship, problem solving skills, tone production, and the most efficient use of the human body. In the Blankenship Woodwind Studio, students will learn and perform music they enjoy, and love their success. I develop a unique experience for each student, tailoring their education to their individual musical needs and personal goals.
