Personal Statement
I believe in giving students a foundation for healthy & sustainable technique. I am enthusiastic and friendly, and always encouraging my students with a smile and positive observation. Fun is a must, while still learning a good practice ethic and the discipline needed as a musician. I discuss each students’ goals with them in their first lesson and work with them to develop a breadth of repertoire that both challenges and excites them. I teach in the classical, musical theater and jazz styles. Ive had an active voice studio since 2007 and teach children through adults.
I recently moved to Illinois from the San Francisco Bay Area in California. I am earning my Masters of Music in Vocal & Opera Performance from Northwestern University on a significant merit scholarship. I did my undergraduate work at Santa Clara University, graduating Magna Cum Laude in 2007 with a BA in Music.
I spent three years teaching K-5 music as an Artist-in-Residence at an elementary school in California. My curriculum included a variety of influences including Orff & choral techniques, Music Appreciation, Music History, basic Music Theory, xylophone & percussion, songs & singing games. I also was the music director for three school-wide productions, and provided two after school music programs. I’ve sung with several Bay Area opera companies, in choirs, and as a solo artist.
I look forward to hearing from you soon!
