Meg Ryan is an active performer and teacher. Meg has appeared as a soloist and with contemporary chamber ensembles, orchestras, and popular combos in San Francisco, Paris, Minneapolis, Los Angeles, and New York. A devoted and passionate teacher, Meg creates a learning environment for people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds to discover their inner musician. Drawing on a well of knowledge and experience in music therapy, education, and spiritual practice, her lessons, classes, and workshops provide a musical education that is comprehensive, joyful, and long-lasting. She has worked with hundreds of students and families through PlayMusic!, the private studio and early-childhood music practice she led for 10 years. She has also created education-through-music programs for students with special needs in the San Francisco and Minneapolis public schools, provided arts programming for at-risk youth, and worked in music therapy settings with children and families affected by Williams Syndrome. In addition to traditional students, Meg welcomes children and families with special needs and adults seeking a musical component to their meditation or relaxation practice. Meg earned a masters degree in flute performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and a bachelors degree from The Hartt School. Her constant desire to improve and to broaden her musical palette has led her to classes with renowned concert flutists such as Emmanuel Pahud and Keith Underwood, shakuhachi master James Nyoraku Schlefer, and world and jazz musician Steve Gorn; shes also studied jazz and Latin styles and has performed regularly with popular and folk musicians in the New York area. Meg is a member of Music Teachers National Association, National Flute Association, and the International Society for Improvised Music.
