Personal Statement
Private lessons are based in a classical approach to the instrument giving the student the necessary technique and reading skills to progress on the instrument beyond the basics. After assessing the student’s skills and knowledge of the instrument, a course is laid out for the student consisting of compositions, exercises, scales, and concepts. After setting a technical foundation the student is then brought along a path of growing their musicianship and understanding of musical interpretation. I take into consideration the different learning styles of my students when teaching while knowing personally that it is my job to inspire and create an atmosphere conducive to learning. Critical learning is always promoted in order to develop each student’s own musical ideas and creativity in the hopes of sparking lifelong learning.
Education / Training
I have a B.A. in Guitar Performance from Columbia College Chicago and a Master’s of Music in Guitar performance from Roosevelt University.
Performed in Master class with Lorenzo Micheli, guitar professor at the Conservatory of Aosta, Accademia Musicale Tema in Milan, and at the Scuola Superiore di Musica.
Performed in a Master class with Pepe Romero in Cordoba, Spain at the 2005 Festival de Cordoba
Performed in a Master class with Grammy Award winner David Russell in Cordoba, Spain at the 2007 and 2008 “Festival de Cordoba”
Attended and participated in Master classes by Costas Cotsiolis, Pavel Steidl, Leo Brouwer, and David Russell
