Personal Statement

Near Burien and Des Moines, WA.
The child comes first. (1/2 hour to 45 min lessons)

I have a playful approach to learning the violin. I really enjoy teaching children, especially beginners, and love to see that look when they “get it”! When done as an addition to the private lesson, group lessons become a wonderful motivator. The children look forward to making friends that also play; they get ensemble experience; opportunity to play for others in an informal setting; a chance for everyone to try out leadership roles; positive peer pressure–the list goes on! When they have a recital, they’ve already played for each other before, and it’s just trying things out in a different format. The parents sit in on the lessons and provide support at home — and enjoy watching and participating in the group lessons as much as the kids do! The parents can see other students working on the same issues as their child, even when there are age differences. Keeps things in perspective. All this and I’m picky too (I have a Masters degree, I have to be picky). I’ve been fortunate to be trained by some of the best.
[I charge $35 for a half hour lesson. Most of my students currently take 1/2 hour or 45 min. lessons.]
