Personal Statement

Seattle Kids Rock uses musical theatre and rock & roll material to teach students both vocal and acting skills while building confidence in a focused and comfortable one-on-one setting. Students will be challenged to learn good vocal tone, healthy belting, character voices, basic sight-reading, audition preparation, vocal placement, basic piano skills, proper breathing technique and acting methods through fun and appropriate songs and monologues. Hannah will work with each student to tailor unique lessons and curriculum that focus on their individual needs and interests. At the end of each semester, students will perform in a Musical Revue that will feature songs they have been working on along with other Seattle Kids Rock students. Seattle Kids Rock will also allow connections between students who have similar interests and holds the possibility for collaboration and group attendance to local performances and events.

Education / Training

Hannah Williams is a graduate of Pacific Lutheran University with a degree in Vocal Music Education where she studied with Janeanne Houston (http://www.northwestartists.org/jh.html). She taught middle school choir and performing arts for the Sumner and Franklin Pierce school districts for which she developed an original and successful musical arts curriculum. She was resident Music Director for Broadway Bound Children’s Theatre for 3 years and also directed Mainstage productions and events at such venues as the Triple Door, The Moore, and The Paramount Theater. While at Broadway Bound, Hannah founded and cultivated “Teens Rock! Yeah!”- a program intended to give teens a sense of support and community while using their love for musical theatre and the 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens as a guidebook. She has just finished a full-length record with Seattle indie-pop band Friday Mile (www.myspace.com/fridaymile) and will be touring the Northwest this spring.
