Personal Statement
I have a doctorate in music (DMA) which is basically a doctorate in saxophone performance. I have taught saxophone and music at the university, community college, and all public school levels. I am a certificated music teacher for the Seattle Public School District. I teach classical and jazz styles. If you can play these styles, then you can play any style. I teach saxophone as an art, a craft, and a science. If you don’t understand how the saxophone works, it is difficult to learn the craft, and without learning the craft you cannot produce music in an artful manner.
I’ve been a professional musician all of my career and have olayed with the Stan Kenton Orchestra, Richie Cole, Lou Rawls, Monk Montgomery, Jessica Williams, Kenny Burrell, Jimmy Smith, and others.
