JLA Music is a comprehensive music services company that provides guitar lessons, piano lessons, live special occasion music, music theory lessons, ear training lessons, composition lessons, arranging lessons, music engraving, music transcription, recording, and other services. JLA Music has been in business for more than 35 years. During that time JLA Music has given hundreds of music performances. taught more than 24,000 individual lessons and 160 sections of classes, and provided many other services. Jeff Anvinson, the owner of JLA Music, has broad experience in music as an educator, performer, arranger, composer, conductor, music engraver, music transcriber, writer and music critic, audio and video recording engineer and producer, and more. He studied orchestration with Pulitzer-prize-winning composer Dominic Argento and permformed in a master class led by multi-Grammy-award-winning guitarist Sharon Isbin. He has taught at universities, public schools, community education programs, commercial music stores, and in private practice. His recordings can be purchased at iTunes, Amazon, and CDBaby. Instructional videos he has created are on two YouTube channels: jlamusic and musicmannd1. He has created hundreds of arrangements and many compositions for a wide range of instrumental combinations, including chamber orchestra, wind ensemble, duos, trios, solos, and others. After study at three universities, he was awarded both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music. He has taught more than 24,000 private lessons and 160 sections of classes, published several articles in periodicals and a newspaper, and performed in the US, China, and Canada. He distributes, and promotes the guitar compositions of Brazilian composer Ernst Mahle.
Education / Training
I hold both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music, the latter at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, I also have a certificate in Management and Supervision. I have studied several instruments/voice with private teachers, including piano, bassoon, piano, and guitar. In particular, I have taken private guitar lessons with several teachers in several genres, including classical, jazz, and others. I have taught at universities, public schools, community education programs, commercial music stores, and in private practice. I was name “Artist of the Week” by the Grand Forks Herald, nominated for a university-wide teaching award, and name one the university “faculty stars”. My performance experience is quite broad, with experience as a soloist, chamber musician, orchestral soloist, wind ensemble soloist, and choral soloist/accompanist. I’ve performed in New York, Philadelphia, Shanghai, Nanchang, Minneapolis, Winnipeg, and many other places in North Dakota, Minnesota, and Michigan. My training includes study with a Pulitzer-prize winning composer and a Grammy Award-winning guitarist. I work with people in a personable and professional manner.
