Personal Statement
I strive to make lessons upbeat by using teaching materials that are enjoyable and practical.
While my commitment to music education and
aspirations for my students are serious, I promote a relaxed environment of patience,
encouragement and a good dose of humor.
My Students:
-learn the fundamentals of music and the skills needed to play their instruments. These fundamentals can be applied to any style of music.
-realize they are capable of reaching their goals, music-related or otherwise.
-experience the joy of making music!
Education / Training
I received my Bachelor of Music degree from Willamette University in 1985 and my Master of Music in Trumpet Performance degree from Boston University in 1988.
Before moving to the Worcester area in 2000, I taught private lessons and played professionally in the Boston area. Some of the ensembles Ive performed with include: The Boston Civic Orchestra, New England Philharmonic, The Brass Consortium, Metropolitan Wind Symphony, Atlantic Brass Quintet, Chorus Pro Musica, Cape Ann Symphony Orchestra, and the Empire Brass Quintet.
In 1998 I earned my certification to teach preK-12 Music in the public schools. Since that time, while continuing to teach privately, I have had the opportunity to teach general music and band in Lawrence, Shirley, Sharon, Hudson, Sterling and Petersham.
