Personal Statement

Learning to play an instrument is exciting and fun. My focus is to help students become the best musician possible while enjoying their music study. I accept students when they are able to read well, and I tell my adults that they are never too old to play and enjoy music! I encourage students to practice through an incentive program and require regular practice weekly. Classical literature is a basic focus, but students may choose their own repertoire and are encouraged to listen to a variety of music styles to broaden their appreciation of all music. Piano technique, and theory are incorporated into all private lessons, and group theory lessons are offered when a class can be formed. Piano students may compete in National Piano Guild auditions each spring. The focus for electronic keyboard students is on chord study and learning the skills of accompaniment for vocal and band performance. Flute students are taught in preparation for school and church music programs and follow a specific course study. The beginning age for a student who wishes to study flute is 12 years. I encourage public performances and offer many opportunities for performing at various venues in the area.

Education / Training

I began studying piano at the age of 5. At the age of 8-14 I studied under the tutelage of Dr. Margarite Psencik in San Angelo, TX. At the age of 13 I began study on flute and took private lessons for 3 years earning a music scholarship to Angelo State University. After graduation I taught public school for 19 years and also operated a private music studio in a community north of San Angelo, TX. I moved to the hill country near Austin in 2008 and began music instruction at Harmony School of Creative Arts where I taught for 5 years prior to again opening a private studio in Kingsland, TX where I continue to teach a select group of motivated students.
