The Les Brown Big Band Weekend starts off with the Les Brown Dance on Friday, March 22, 7:00 pm at Kevin’s Place in Lykens. It features 2 hours of swing dance music by the valley’s big band, After Hours (www.theafterhoursbigband.com). Admission to the dance is $10 per person. Food and drinks are available at menu prices. On Saturday, March 23, the Les Brown Big Band Festival begins at noon in the Williams Valley High School auditorium, Tower City. Participating in the festival will be the Moonlighters Big Band (www.moonlightersbigband.org) collegiate and local school bands. Special festival guests are Les Brown Jr, Jeff “Swampy” Marsh (Les Sr.’s grandson and the co-creator of Disney Channel’s popular cartoon, Phineas & Ferb) and Band of Renown alumni. The festival ends at 6 pm. Food vendors will be on site throughout the day. Admission is $8.00 per person; students, through college, are free. Sunday, March 24 will end the weekend with a jazz service. It will be a non-denominational service in at one of the local churches. The service is open to the public.
