Personal Statement
My goal is to make sure that people get a well rounded education in music while achieving their personal goals. Too many times have I met people who have stopped playing because they were bored of learning scales or were restricted to a single genre, or a rigid training program that was not fun at all. Often folks are given the chance to express themselves musically, and that is real shame.
My lessons are highly tuned to each individual who comes in for lessons. Some students prefer a mathematical approach to learning music theory, some are too young for that, and don’t want to learn it at all (It’s my job to sneak it in, in those cases). It’s much easier to learn something if it’s presented along with music the student enjoys. Forcing a student to sit there and play Hanon exercises for the umpteenth time isn’t terribly productive.
It is important for students to learn how music works, and to be introduced to things they may have never heard before. Exploration is a part of learning, a part of growing.
I like to make music fun and fulfilling, that is my goal for my students!
