Personal Statement
I have my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Juilliard in flute performance as well as over nine years of private teaching, public school teaching, and teaching artist experience.
As a teacher, I want to bring out the natural curiosity and enthusiasm that anyone interested in learning music innately has. I encourage my students to discover what makes them excited about music and to find a way to achieve their goals through lessons that are fun and engaging. I believe that technical ability comes from playing as much as possible, not necessarily from drilling exercises, so ultimately I want my students to want to continue practicing long after they have met their weekly requirements – whether that is playing classical music, jazz, world music, pop or rock.
I specialize in classical flute, but I teach other instruments as well including the piccolo, celtic flute, penny whistle, traverso, recorder, and ocarina.
If your child is just beginning to look into an instrument I also teach younger students with an integrated lesson plan that incorporates their interests, visual art, dance and music. They can learn the building blocks of music while gradually starting an instrument. Perfect for young children who might not be interested in sitting down for a long lesson yet.
Education / Training
I have my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in flute performance from the Juilliard School in New York where I studied with Jeffrey Khaner. Prior to coming to New York I began my training at the Hartt School of Music in Hartford, CT with Greig Shearer.
Currently I live and perform in New York, but also travel around the country to perform with the ETA3 Trio and the IRIS Orchestra.
