The Academy, serving the greater south central region of Pennsylvania, provides a comprehensive program that includes private instruction in orchestral instruments, voice and piano, classical guitar as well as small group instruction in theory and composition; there are ample opportunities for solo performances and ensemble work. Students also learn to become informed listeners by attending live concerts at the Academy and making use of a fine collection of recorded music in the Newstead Library. The Academy has 400 students and 26 performing faculty members. More than 50 scholarships and incentive awards are offered to students annually. The Academy offers two full semesters of study and a 6-week summer program that includes the Music Naturally Summer Festival for advanced students. Monthly chamber concerts, the Twilight Series, are offered for the general public. Special features of the Academy include a Children’s Choir, a High School Chorale, an inner-city program, an early development program, two resident faculty ensembles that have performed nationally and internationally, Opera and Musical Theater, two student string orchestras, nine chamber ensembles, and wind ensembles. The Academy provides a study program for international students in cooperation with a private high school in Lancaster.
