General
Since 2001, Webster University has managed and operated the former Saint Louis Symphony Community Music School in metropolitan St. Louis. The University provides the educational experience and resources that enable the School to continue its mission of providing outstanding music education to students of all ages and abilities. The union of the School and Webster University is a perfect fit. As home of the Webster Groves branch of the Music School since 1996, the University is committed to excellence in instruction and community outreach that have distinguished the School over the years. As home of the Leigh Gerdine College of Fine Arts (LGCFA), Webster has a world-class reputation for leadership in the arts and eagerly brings this wealth of experience to bear for the benefit of music education in the community. At four locations in the metropolitan St. Louis area, the School offers individual lessons and classes in music. Core programs continue, including Suzuki instruction, Kindermusik, many applied music lessons, jazz techniques, theory, and voice classes, group instrumental classes, four youth orchestras, a jazz ensemble, a percussion ensemble, and the MetLife Youth Music Program Ensemble. Summer camps, masterclasses, a composition competition, and faculty recital series round out the school’s offerings.
