Education / Training
Gifted as a vocalist and an instrumentalist (santoor), Deepal has been honored by highly recognized awards at State level from the University of Mumbai, as well as certificate of excellence from several renowned cultural organizations in India and USA.
Acclaimed as a Sangeet Visharad from Bhatkhande University via Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan (Mumbai), Deepal has been pursuing the santoor since the past 20 years from her guruji, Shri Dinesh Sampat. With the blessings of her guruji, she pursues the santoor with a style evolved out of gayaki (vocal), gatkari (instrumental technique) and layakari (rhythmic improvisation).
Her raga renderings on the santoor have a consistent clarity of tone & vigor. The style of music compositions have been passed on from her guruji through Maihar gharana. Her solid foundation in hindustani classical music also brings soulful emotions on the santoor with melodious patterns and gats. She underwent vocal training during her sangeet visharad from Smt. Shashikala Kaikini and thereafter under Smt. Mitali Banerjee Bhawmik. She also attained the NJ Folk Art Apprenticeship Award in the State of NJ under the guidance of Smt. Mitali Banerjee Bhawmik.
