Personal Statement

Blaire K.S. Koerner (BlaireBassoonist) is an ensemble bassoonist, teacher, entrepreneur, and a candidate for a Doctorate of Musial Arts at Eastman living and working in Rochester, NY.

At a time when classical music is being diminished from American childhood education and experience, Blaire strives to re-enforce music’s importance and availability through a variety of efforts and collaborations including innovative performances, educational initiatives, and technologically-infused endeavors.

As a musician, Blaire performs in New York State with a variety of ensembles including Ensemble Signal, Project Bassoon Quartet, Society for Chamber Music Rochester, and Symphoria. In addition, Blaire has performed internationally in Austria, Italy, Germany, France and Switzerland with American Music Abroad and the contemporary soundSCAPE Festival.

A seasoned bassoon teacher, Blaire maintains a private studio for beginner to advanced students, teaches at Eastman Community Music School (ECSM), where she recently received the Jack L. Frank Award for Excellence in Teaching (2016), and teaches secondary lessons at Eastman School of Music (ESM).

An avid entrepreneur, Blaire assists in running chamber organizations in the Rochester area, is a Board Member of Pegasus Early Music, has received assistantships at festivals such as Spoleto USA, and works to develop internationally available online courses which focus on both theory and entrepreneurial studies.
