Personal Statement

I offer piano&voice lessons to children( all ages) as well as adults. I have 11 years of teaching experience and over 25 years performing experience. I was taught in the Russian paino school traditions and i apply the same principles to my teaching style. I am very dedicated to every student of mine no matter what their level is. I am also very patient and encouraging person.

Education / Training

Alexander Tchobanov has been declared a true virtuoso by the Bulgarian press which has recognized his talent a number of times. He has a been a winner of the National Bulgarian Competition “Svetoslav Obretenov” in Bulgaria, and at the “Temecula Young Artists Piano Competition” in California, U.S.A. Alexander has also been chosen as semi-finalist at the Los Angeles Music Center Spotlight Awards. In 2000, the young Bulgarian was invited to perform a live radio broadcast recital on WGBH Boston . Mr. Tchobanov has performed also at the Jordan Hall in Boston, as he was featured on Public Radio International’s show From the Top, a showcase of America’s finest young musicians. In May of 2005, Alexander made his chamber music debut at the Weill CARNEGIE Hall auditorium. He has also performed at the TRIBECA Performing Arts center, WMP Hall, Stella Adler Studios and the Bulgarian Consulate General in New york. He has appeared numerous times on the Bulgarian National Television and Radio as well as on WXEL- South Florida. Mr. Tchobanov has performed in a number of major cities throughout the U.S. including New York, Boston, Miami, and Los Angeles. In addition, he has also performed in venues such as the Harriet Himmel Theater at City Place in Palm Beach FL, The Lincoln Theater in Miami and most recently at the “Seasons” concert hall in Yakima, Washington as well as the San Juan Islands. His teachers include Susan Starr, Roberta Rust, Philip Evans, and Albena Dimova. Alexander was awarded full-scholarships at the Idyllwild Arts Academy (where he received his high-school diploma), and the Harid Conservatory(Lynn University) where he completed his Bachelor Degree. Upon his graduation from the Idyllwild Arts, he was given the award “Best recital of the year” and was also featured on the CD release “Aspirations&Realities”. Alexander has been awarded a number of times grants by the “Leni FeBland Foundation” in Santa Barbara. He was also invited to be a judge of the 2004 Lynn University Young Musician Competition. Mr. Tchobanov has participated in master classes with Lars Vogt, Robert Levin, John Perry, and Nelita True among others. In 2004, he was appointed as teaching assistant at Rutgers University where he completed his Masters Degree under the tutelage of Professor Susan Starr. In the summer of 2007, Alexander was awarded a prestigious Fellowship to attend the Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara, where he studied piano with Jerome Lowenthal ( Juilliard School) and also received chamber music coaching from the Takcs Quartet.
