Personal Statement
My teaching is based on communicating to the student the importance of a solid, vocal technique, concise and clear diction, and compelling interpretation. These three areas are what builds an exceptional singer and all efforts in the lesson are towards these goals. I utilize in my studio a cognitive approach to vocal technique; it is very important to me that the student learns how his/her instrument functions in regards to breathing, phonation, resonance, etc. Any student 10 years of age or above at any level is expertise may be accepted in my studio. Depending on the level of the singer, we may incorporate ear training into the lesson using Solfege and other methods to further the individuals musicianship and confidence in the assigned repertoire. A non-threatening, comfortable learning environment is essential and I consider it a personal responsibility to fulfill the needs of each student.
Education / Training
I recently graduated from the prestigious Peabody Institute where I received my Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance/Vocal Pedagogy (the study of vocal teaching). While studying there I was chosen to represent Peabody’s talent in concerts at both Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center. I was one of the few chosen as an inductee for the highly regarded musical honor society, Pi Kappa Lambda, based on both GPA and recommendations from the Peabody faculty. I currently study with Dr. Steven Rainbolt, whom I took lessons from during my attendance at Peabody. I am originally from California where I received my Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance at California State University Stanislaus. My training is predominantly classical, but I enjoy singing in various styles including jazz and musical theater.
