Personal Statement
My teaching is based on 40 years of experience, which includes private teaching, college level classes, and clinics in the public schools. I have over 40 years experience as a professional freelance musician in a wide variety of styles and with world class musicians. I have also lead my own creative jazz groups for as many years and been an award winning composer in both classical and jazz styles, and have served as a freelance commercial arranger, producer and recording engineer as well. My website has much more information. Please take a look!
Also, my blog (http://bobgillis.wordpress.com) will show you what’s been happening during the lessons, and give you more ideas about my approach to teaching.
Even with all that experience, I still enjoy working with and sharing the joy of discovery with even the youngest of students, and create a positive, enthusiastic and comfortable environment for learning. I view teaching as a creative act, and am careful to choose the right steps for my students based on solid fundamentals that will encourage them with their own success.
Most lessons are 30 minutes each week, although I do have students who take hour lessons.
