Personal Statement

My passion is teaching and playing the cello. I have seen the cello change people’s lives in very positive ways. I can help you with your cello playing goals and your goals toward a degree in music, if that is what you desire. I have been very fortunate to study with great teachers including both Ann and Ardyth Alton, Carlton McCreery, chamber music with members of the the American String Quartet, and orchestral literature with Nathan Stutch. My credentials include a Doctorate in Cello Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Alabama, a Masters in Music in Cello Performance from the Manhattan School of Music, and a Bachelors in Music in string education from Concordia College in Moorhead, MN. Personally, I have served as principal cellist of the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra in Alabama. I have been featured as a soloist with the National Symphony of Bolivia, and with orchestras in Ohio, North Carolina and Minnesota. I was on the cello artist faculty of the Brevard Music Center in North Carolina for ten summers. Currently, I am an Associate Professor of Music at the University of Mount Union. Besides teaching cello, chamber music, music theory and music literature courses,I conduct the chamber orchestra and supervise all string activity. I enjoy playing recitals with other faculty members and subbing in regional orchestras in the area.
