Personal Statement
I’m a piano and woodwind teacher both online and in Prescott, WI with several openings available. I teach beginning-advanced piano, oboe, clarinet, and bassoon, and I also offer music theory and oboe reed making tutoring. Lessons are available both online and in my Prescott, WI studio (Tuesdays and Fridays only).
All ages and abilities are welcome, including adults and young children. Children younger than 8 years old who wish to take online lessons will need parental supervision. I have experience with people with many types of disabilities, and I believe that a disability should never keep someone from enjoying the gift of music. People learn in a variety of ways, and my teaching reflects that. I use formal teaching method books but I tailor my teaching specifically to each person’s needs and goals. More than anything, I believe that playing an instrument should always be fun.
To take online lessons, all you need is a computer that can be set up near your instrument, an internet connection that is fast enough to work with Skype, a webcam (built in to most laptops), a microphone (built in to most laptops and external webcams), a Skype account, and a Paypal account. Most people already have everything they need in their homes.
Lessons are $20 per half hour, after a free first lesson/interview. There may not be many openings for in-person lessons, but online lessons are available throughout the day on weekdays, so home schooled students and adults with variable schedules are more than welcome!
Education / Training
I have played piano for 21 years. In college I studied under Debbie Gillette at Trinity International University, and Hyeson Ahn at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. In 2007 I was one of a few piano students chosen to play in the “Bosendorfer Salon” at the Viennese Ball at UW-Eau Claire.
I have been playing the oboe for 16 years. I studied under Naomi Bensdorf at Trinity International University, and Dr. Christa Garvey at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. I am currently playing the oboe with the St. Croix Valley Symphony Orchestra and the University of Wisconsin-River Falls Symphony Band.
I am mainly self-taught on the clarinet, bassoon, and recorder. I have 12-14 years of playing experience on each of these instruments. I have worked closely with several college students of these instruments, and I have learned as much as possible from them. At the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire I played bassoon and clarinet with the University Band, and I played bassoon with Cane Mutiny, a bassoon ensemble. From 2008-2009 I performed at several area nursing homes and some public events on oboe and clarinet with a duet partner.
My voice training comes from taking private voice lessons, singing in high school choirs, and singing for years in various church choirs.
