Personal Statement
I started teaching piano in Sept. 1970 while still a student at UW-Stevens Point. Later, after graduation in 1972, I did graduate work in String Development at UW-Madison throughout the 1970s and started teaching private string lessons as well. Upon students’ request, I also started teaching organ and accordion. I studied the Suzuki method from Marjory Aber at UW-Stevens Point during my senior year at the University, and attended a couple Suzuki Institutes, including the one in 1976 when S. Suzuki was there. When I have sufficient students I offer a summer orchestra program, giving beginner students an opportunity to play open string parts or beginner level string parts, while the more advanced students play the 1st and 2nd parts. I also play the drum set with a Contemporary Praise Team at my church; and occasionally substitute for a church organist at another church. I have played cello in the Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra in the late 70s and have played cello for many years in the annual Waupaca Fine Arts Festival concerts. I have played viola in string quartets, quintets, and small string ensembles. I have served as an adjudicator for the Wisconsin School Music Association’s solo & ensemble festivals since 1994 and have reached the Master Adjudicator level. I try to match my teaching style to the student’s age, level and musical interest as much as possible.
