Personal Statement
I will be a great music teacher because I am diligent, willing to
invest in helping students excel, focused, patient, and passionate about music! I have experience teaching
kindergarten, elementary, middle school, and high school, and received my Music Education degree from
the University of Idahos Lionel Hampton School of Music, magna cum laude, in December 2017.
No matter what a students background, I am committed to helping them reach their full
potential. To me this means inspiring all students to capitalize on their strengths and overcome their
weaknesses. I hope to model for my students how achieving academic excellence can improve their lives,
and how learning is a part of their lives beyond just the practice room. Quality music education enhances
perseverance, self-discipline, and creative thinking, and as importantly, is a priceless opportunity to
improve teamwork skills. Plus, it is important not to underestimate the value of the happiness, and even
joy, that knowledge gives us.
I am fortunate to have had many extraordinary teachers who have modeled for me the very best
teaching strategies. I believe students do their best when treated with respect and when they are listened
to, and strive to respect and listen to all my students. I am open to new possibilities, ready to explore new
terrain, and to find resources I need to help me face new challenges. My mission is to bring out the best
in my students.
I have completed my music Praxis test, First Aid and have submitted my paperwork for Virginia teacher certification.
