Personal Statement

Hey there My name is Charles, but I prefer to be called Kris. I was born in Montgomery Alabama, but became a south Florida native after relocating to south Florida at a young age. I began playing drums at age eight and making music has been my passion since. At age thirteen one of my middle school music teacher took interest in me and taught me how to play the euphonium. Shortly after I was learning how to play the trombone.
Upon graduating I began exploring my love for music; as I began attending Dillard’s high school. There I joined the band and began touring to play at different schools, events, and competitions.
As my high school career came to an end, I was accepted to Florida A&M University with a music scholarship.
Today I am working towards my Bachelors of Music at Florida Memorial University. And also perform at local events throughout south Florida, and teaching youths throughout the city. I love traveling, meeting new people, listening to and playing music, exploring new cultures, food, and music :-D!!!!
Member of Miami Heats Band, Marching 100, member of Florida Memorial University Band, CEO, and the list goes on but most importantly I love Music, love learning and teaching Music

*** Lesson Details ***
As a teacher my skills adjust to fit every student needs, some learn better in a intense environment while others learn in a laid back environment. Depending on the individual and their learning habits such as the ability to stay focused, and practice even when no one is looking. Each one will learn in a different time span. Expect after every lesson to have homework (what you will need to work on for the before the next lesson). Once student has mastered their skill well enough to perform in front of an audience, he/she will have the opportunity to perform live in front of an audience.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Florida Memorial University: Bands room or practice room – music stands, acoustic drum set, piano (grand/baby grand/acoustic uprights available), trombone, french horn, tuba, additional seating for parents.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I will provide Instruments and teaching book.
Students provide book and pen/pencil and if they have they own instruments it will help.

*** Specialties ***
I use different teaching methods and books for different age groups and it may also vary depending on ones knowledge or ability to play.
