Personal Statement

Enthusiastic! Passionate! Confidence Builder! These are some of the words school administrators have used to describe my teaching style. I’ve been a musician all my life – you can almost say it’s the air I breathe! And I love to pass my love of music to my students! I enjoy discovering each student’s best learning style and applying that to the lessons. I believe in building up as a way to achieve success and not tearing down. I believe lessons should be fun and I actively work with my students to help them make their practice time enjoyable too!

Education / Training

I have a Bachelors of Arts in music (violin) from NMSU. Since that time, I have taught violin and viola, guitar, piano and voice both privately, in schools and academies. I have taught choirs and orchestras. I have studied and use the Suzuki method when possible, mixing it with other traditional methods as needed. I have been a singer all my life, singing in choirs, musicals and recordings. I spent several years in China and for about 8 of those I sang and acted in Chinese show business. I took Chinese folk songs and made jazz and blues arrangements and recorded the backgrounds in my studio and performed in over 70 stage and TV shows. I have written and recorded hundreds of songs, many for custom projects both in the US and in Asia. Currently, besides teaching, I perform at events and in restaurants; playing piano, singing and playing violin.
