Personal Statement
I received my Bachelors degree in oboe performance from the Conservatorio de Msica de Puerto Rico in 2006. Throughout my undergraduate studies, I taught oboe and music theory at POSJU, an after-school music program for youth (ages 7-18) from low-income communities; was a member of the Orquesta de Cmara Guillermo Figueroa; and performed regularly with the Orquesta Filarmnica Arturo Somohano, and the Banda Estatal de Puerto Rico.
Subsequently, I completed a Masters degree in oboe performance at the University of Akron in Ohio, where I served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant for two years. During that time, I was also a member of the Lunaris Woodwind Quintet, which offered in-school concerts and music clinics in the Akron-Cleveland area.
I currently teach privately and perform with various groups in the Washington DC metro area, including the Metropolitan Orchestra, the Avanti Orchestra, Washington Metropolitan Philharmonic, and the World Bank-IMF Orchestra, among others.
Prospective students can expect to develop basic music skills such as sight-reading, rhythm, and ear training, while improving their overall understanding of the instrument and its mechanism. I welcome students of all backgrounds, ages and levels that are interested in furthering their playing and are willing to try their best.
I teach on Saturdays and some weekday evenings at students’ homes. Lessons are $30/45 mins. and $35/one-hour. Rates may be negotiated depending on driving distance and other circumstances. Please, contact me to discuss!
