Ashten Linnea Purviance, Mezzo Soprano

Ashten believes that vocal expression is a unique art form that every individual can use and learn about. After receiving her Bachelors of Music in Vocal Performance at Hastings College in Hastings, Nebraska, Ashten decided to further her musical education at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee where she received a double emphasis Master of Music in Vocal Performance and Vocal Pedagogy. Ashten’s teaching method focuses on assisting students in discovering and developing their talents, while providing a foundation of knowledge to positively encourage them to pursue their passions in life.

To assist students in discovering and developing their talents, while providing a foundation of knowledge to positively encourage them to pursue their passions in life. Ashten’s avid love for performing and dedication to providing an education for future musicians has fueled her teaching methods. Her approach to teaching voice focuses on anatomy and artistic understanding of the voice as a human instrument, while advocating proper technique, vocal health, overall musicianship, and performance practices.

Along with singing, Ashten plays the piano, guitar, and saxophone. She especially loves to accompany herself with the guitar or the piano while singing and enjoys teaching students how to use proper vocal production while also using an accompaniment instrument.

Education
Ashten holds a Bachelors of Music in Vocal Performance from Hastings College and a double emphasis Master of Music in Vocal Performance and Vocal Pedagogy from Belmont University in Nashville, TN. Ashten has performed in many ensembles including opera theatre, operetta, choir, and band.

Highlights/Performances
Ashten debuted with the Belmont Opera in their production of Ruddigore, by Gilbert and Sullivan, as Mad Margaret. Other roles in opera and musicals include The Monitor in Puccini’s Sour Angelica, Rachel in John Adam’s The Ballad of Baby Doe, and Snoopy in You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown. She has been involved in the Nashville Symphony Chorus, has performed numerous solo recitals, and holds experience in performing and teaching many different genres of music ranging from classical style to popular styles.
