Housed in the historic Temple for Performing Arts, the Des Moines Symphony Academy opened its doors on September 8th, 2003. With over 300 students ranging from the age of 6 weeks to 77 years the Academy has programs designed with everyone in mind. The Academy is a complete music school, offering individual and group instruction on a variety of instruments in styles from classical to contemporary, as well as courses on music appreciation, music theory, and special topics. The Academy is home to all of the symphony’s educational programs including the Iowa Youth Symphony, the Iowa Youth Chamber Orchestra, the Junior Youth Symphony, the Symphony Alliance’s Instrument Loan program, and music library.
