The retreat will be held the beautiful Empowerment Center in Goshen, NY and will include group classes, instructor recitals, jam sessions, and more. Daily, Overnight, Weekly Rates and Work/Study Available. Raquy Danziger is a world class doumbek player and has written four instructional books, the latest entitled Dumbek Fever IV. She currently resides in Istanbul, Turkey where she runs an instructional office with master drummer Bunyamin Olguncan. Rami El-Aasser teaches and plays arabic percussion from classical to folk with groups like Alsarah and The Nubatones, Zikrayat, and at NYCs live music Haflas. Chef Rami has provided beats and beets at every NY retreat since 1999. Special guests Marla Leigh will be in attendance to give instruction on the art of frame drumming. RHYTHM IS A DANCER WORKSHOPS Sept 2-5 with Kaeshi Chai, Dancers and drummers will work with a tag team of instructors to de-mystify the drum solo. Middle eastern hand drumming is becoming very popular all around the globe. A primary instrument is a goblet shaped drum called by many names including dumbek, darbuka, or tabla. The lack of instructional materials for westerners inspired Raquy to study this instrument and create a notation system for its easy notation and transmission.
