Armstrong Community Music School of Austin Lyric Opera was established in April 2000 and offers a wealth of diverse instruction to students of all ages and skill levels. The School, the first ever to be inaugurated by an opera company, offers instruction in classical, jazz, as well as blues, folk and a variety of musical styles from world cultures. There is a special emphasis on early childhood music offerings with more than 50 classes weekly. In addition, the School provides opera specific outreach for all ages kindergarten through adult and musical programs for high-risk youth in housing projects, detention facilities and community centers.
