Queens College-School of Music
Flushing, NY, 11367
The Center for Preparatory Studies in Music (CPSM) was founded by the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College to provide residents of the Greater New York area with a comprehensive music program of high quality and moderate cost. Unlike other preparatory programs, CPSM has been designed to meet the musical needs of beginning musicians as well as those of considerable experience and ability. The CPSM curriculum includes private study of all orchestral and band instruments, piano, guitar and voice. Strings and piano may be studied in either Suzuki or traditional framework. Musicianship is a required course of all enrolled students. Ensembles include: orchestra, chorus, wind ensemble and opera workshop. Also available are courses on a more advanced track in the Conservatory Program at CPSM. The Dalcroze program provides musical introduction for the CPSM’s two- and three-year-old students. Current enrollment is approximately 400 students with 65 faculty members.
