Personal Statement

Krista is a violinist and violist residing in St Paul, Minnesota. Both this year and last she and her husband Jeremy Swider (also a violinist), were featured on the Bluefin Bay concert series in Tofte, Minnesota, on the North Shore of Lake Superior. Krista is the first violinist in the String Quartet con Passione, a chamber group that performs regularly in and around the Twin Cities. She studied both violin performance and pedagogy with Andrzej Grabiec in the Moores School of Music at the University of Houston. Graduating with honors, Krista completed a Bachelor in Violin Performance and was awarded membership to Phi Kappa Phi, the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and Golden Key National Honors Society. Besides studying with Andrzej Grabiec, Krista has worked with Sally OReilly, Aaron Janse, and Mary West, and participated in a master class with Donald Weilerstein.

Krista has taught for sixteen years now and has a thriving studio where she teaches students from varied age groups both violin and viola. She holds chamber music coaching sessions at her studio, in which she teaches a high school and an adult string quartet. She served as a guest judge to determine participants for a Master Class with the Cavanni String Quartet at MacPhail Center for Music in Minneapolis, MN. Previously, Krista was on faculty at St Josephs School of Music in St Paul, MN, Minnesota Valley Academy in Burnsville, MN, K and S Conservatory in Woodbury, MN, and Sagemont Centre for the Arts in Houston, TX.
