Personal Statement

I am a conservatory grad, and held a titled position with the Alabama Symphony for 20 years.
Now retired, I teach full time, and enjoy sharing my experience and expertise with the next generation of young musicians.
My students have appeared at the Alabama All-State Orchestra Festival every year, and have been accepted as music majors and minors at higher institutions, including the Alabama School of Fine Arts.
I teach all ages from 5 to adult, and train fiddlers as well as classical style players.
My young students study several different methods, depending on age and interest, and keep a log to track their practice time.
I ask that parents of 5-7 year olds be present at the lesson, and the parents are actively involved with the home practice. Most of my parents find themselves learning to read music, and some are actually playing the violin with their children without taking lessons themselves!
We have a lot of fun, and the children are most gratified by the special attention they receive after playing at church or at home for the family.
