Personal Statement

Young children have unique abilities to grasp music and make it part of their being. I specialize in group classes for Preschool through Kindergarten introducing children to various aspects of music from notation, rhythm, pitch and dynamics to Symphonic masterworks. Games and movement are the bread and butter of my method.

My goals as a music theory teacher are to instill in my students an appreciation of music theory as a discipline, a well-rounded understanding of theory and aural skills, and fluency in sight singing and dictation. My students sing, dictate, study and analyze the classical repertoire, primarily, rather than pedagogy texts and exercises designed only for the keyboard.

As a composition instructor my goal is to help my students discover their own unique voice, and develop their aesthetic while equipping them with the necessary tools of orchestration and consciousness of form in the 21st Century.

Piano and Violin were my primary instruments through my undergraduate study and my love of music, music theory and composition stemmed from this well. I delight to teach beginners and intermediates.
